Abstract

The ninth issue of the fourth season of National Treasure led the audience into the Jilin Province Museum. The first national treasure presented was the Hundred Flowers Scrolls, a birthday gift from Song Lizong, the fifth emperor of the Southern Song Dynasty, to Empress Xie Daoqing. The National Treasure · Hundred Flowers Scroll tells the story of the first year of Deyou(1275 AD) of the Southern Song Dynasty. In the that year, the Yuan army marched south, and many ministers fled the court. Zhang Shijie fought the Yuan army at Jiaoshan in Zhenjiang and was defeated in the first battle. Prime Minister Chen Yizhong, impeached by the students the Imperial Academy, fled Lin'an. Empress Dowager Xie Daoqing, left with no other choice, wrote a letter in frustration to Chen Yizhong's mother, urging her to persuade her son to filial his duties of filial piety and loyalty. An important part of the program's creation was to reconstruct Xie Daoqing's clothing style based on comprehensive factors, including her status, the social clothing fashion of the Song Dynasty, and the narrative setting of the story. This paper presents detailed textual research and analysis of the clothing style, color, fabric, and pattern of the Empress Dowager Xie Daoqing by drawing on her life history, unearthed archaeological objects, and Song Dynasty tomb paintings.
